Within the small cottage, Shadow was rather unpleasantly awoken to the feel of sun-rays filtering in through a gap in his curtains, illuminating a thin beam across his muzzle and eyelids, and a rapidly beeping alarm tone. This could only mean one thing—the dreaded time had come, and his ears lazily twitched as a groan lacking even a smidgen of enthusiasm slipped through parted lips. He had set the small clock to begin alerting him back into consciousness at precisely thirty minutes past six o'clock, to give enough time for the charcoal hedgehog to gather his bearings, convince Mephiles to cooperate, and allow them both to get ready for the trip today.
